ONE of Newquay’s most prominent hotels is set to begin a new chapter this summer.

THE NICI Newquay, which was formally the Hotel Victoria, is re-opening following a major refurbishment.

The historic 82-bedroom hotel now owned by the Nicolas James Group has been restored and reimagined as a contemporary coastal retreat, “shaped by the energy of the Atlantic and the relaxed ease of the Italian Riviera.”

The significant investment aims to create a year-round destination for both visitors and the local community.

The hotel’s signature restaurant, Amalfi, will offer Italian-inspired dining with an emphasis on seasonal locally sourced Cornish produce.

Open throughout the day, it will spill out onto a terrace overlooking the sea. The Tucker Rocks is set to deliver relaxed, all-day dining with a “playful, sociable energy.”

A major focal point will be the reimagined clifftop pool, transformed into a modern pool club with panoramic ocean views and a new sauna overlooking the sea.

THE NICI Spa is conceived as a place to slow down and reset. A 20-metre indoor pool forms the heart of the space, surrounded by a sequence of thermal experiences including a salt room, steam room, sauna and hot tub.

Seven serene treatment rooms offer a curated menu of treatments. A fully equipped gym and programme of classes are also planned.

The NICI Newquay plans to position itself as a social hub, hosting regular cultural events curated with local contributors.

A private cinema will offer daily screenings, and family-friendly facilities including a dedicated kids’ club, which aim to make the hotel accessible for multigenerational visits.

The rare Victorian bathing lift is due to once again connect the hotel to the cove below.

A Nicolas James Group spokesperson said: “Following the success of its flagship property in Bournemouth, THE NICI brand has built a reputation for revitalising landmark hotels while celebrating their original character.

“In Newquay, that approach includes the careful restoration of the building’s distinctive features.

“Many of the hotel’s 82 rooms will feature private balconies with sweeping sea views. Interiors draw inspiration from both Cornwall’s coastline and the relaxed spirit of the Italian Riviera, with light-filled spaces designed for comfort and connection.

“The opening represents a significant boost for Newquay’s tourism economy, creating new jobs and reinforcing the town’s reputation as one of the UK’s leading coastal destinations.

“By restoring a historic building and enhancing public-facing facilities, the project seeks to strengthen the connection between the landmark site and the wider community.”

Founder Nicolas Roach said: “Newquay has its own rhythm.

“Surf culture, great beaches, that constant movement between the sea and the town and we wanted to reflect that.

“The influence of the Italian coast adds a layer of style and escapism, but the foundation is still very much Newquay.

“Whether it’s coming off the beach for a late lunch, meeting for drinks as the sun drops, or just spending the day moving between the water and the hotel, it needed to feel completely in tune with how people already live here.”
