A POPULAR café in Newquay has been served up a prestigious award for its excellence.

The Garden Café at Trenance Cottages has received a Good Food Awards Gold Seal, which are awarded to UK food establishments that have demonstrated consistent high quality in food, service, and value over several years.

Receiving this award signifies a venue has won the Blue Ribbon for a minimum of three consecutive years, making it a symbol of sustained excellence and a mark of a trusted, highly rated business

Owner Shannon Smith said: “We make as much as possible in-house, and anything we can't is procured from local suppliers. Along with Trenance Heritage Cottages, we organise different events throughout the year for everyone to come and enjoy.

“For most of my working life I have been involved in the hospitality sector, here in Cornwall and abroad. I first started working at the café in 2021, and I am very grateful to both previous owners who had given me the opportunity to be part of the team and offer support along the way.

“When the opportunity for me to take on the café arose, it felt like a natural progression.

“I have always taken an interest in business, paired with a huge love of baking and cooking, and recently graduating with a degree in film, media and photography, it's been an incredible opportunity being able to channel all of my passions into one big venture.

“Juggling both university and a business has been a challenge, but I have learnt so much along the way. The award is a special recognition of our hard work, and represents all of the inspiration, ideas and efforts that go into making the cafe, and what we sell, the best it can be. We are extremely proud and grateful to receive such an accolade. A big thank you to the Good Food Awards for the recognition.”
