A popular Newquay arts festival is drawing nearer.

Nansledan Arts Festival will feature art, craft and writing workshops, music performances as well as art trail between June 9 and 15.

The theme is flourish, which aims to build on the connections made within Nansledan, Newquay and the wider Cornwall area in 2024.

The festival comedy night will showcase several Cornish stand-ups including Kernow King and Harriet Dyer on Saturday, June 14.

New this year is a pop-up choir where choir leader, Jo Savile is inviting would-be singers to have a go at learning two songs and then performing them to an audience as part of an all-star music afternoon in aid of Cornwall Mind on Sunday, June 15. No previous experience is necessary.

The finale will be a traditional Cornish dance and music night with Salt and Sky on Sunday, June 15.

Committee secretary, Liz Hutchinson, said: “Some familiar features from last year will appear such as choices of art, craft and writing workshops and an art trail through Nansledan where local artists are invited to exhibit.

“The participatory theme continues with the production of a sustainable sculpture made from tin cans and a photo project involving residents by Duchy of Cornwall photographer, Hugh Hastings.

“We’ve been amazed at the way the festival is taking off this year.

“This year’s theme is flourish so the committee are hoping that as many people as possible will participate and perhaps discover hidden talents.

“Workshops, performances and talks are expected to be popular, so the committee are urging people to get tickets, where appropriate to avoid disappointment.

“Our main festival sponsors this year are DL Accounts, CG Fry and Son, Morrish Builders.

“Thanks go to them and to all the businesses and local people who are supporting the arts festival.

“The festival needs volunteers so to find out more about events and tickets or to get involved please get in contact with us.”
