The Bodmin branch of the Royal British Legion held a “thank you” evening to show its appreciation to fundraisers.
Bodmin Mayor Philip Cooper presented certificates of thanks to many individuals and local organisations that collected for the 2022 Poppy Appeal.
The evening, which was staged at Cornwall’s Regimental Museum, was attended by around 100 people including many young people from Bodmin’s schools.
Group Captain Mike Trace presented three branch certificates of appreciation to members of the Bodmin branch committee in recognition of their hard work at branch level.
The highlight of the evening for many was the presentation of a certificate and medal to Veronica Courts, from Mount, to mark 50 years of collecting in the village for the Poppy Appeal.
Group Captain Trace presented the awards to Veronica and she received a standing ovation.
The Courts family’s association with the Poppy Appeal in the village of Mount now spans three generations. Veronica took over from her mother-in-law Betty Courts and Veronica’s daughter Louise Jenkin has now assumed responsibility.
Bodmin branch chairman Derek Coad said: “The committee of the Bodmin branch of the Royal British Legion would like to express their deepest gratitude to all who gave their time to collect for the appeal, especially to Veronica for her amazing 50 years of support to the Poppy Appeal.”
