A man was assaulted following a collision between a van and a pedestrian in Newquay.

A 25-year-old man from Newquay was arrested on suspicion of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent following the incident, which happened near the Co-Op in Henver Road on Saturday, February 4 at around 10.05am.

Officers were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving a van and a pedestrian and a further report of an assault in the street.

The victim, a local man in his 40s, sustained minor injuries which did not require hospital treatment.

The man arrested has been released on police bail to return on Friday, March 17.

The suspect and the victim are believed to be known to each other.

Police investigating the assault are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
