PLANS to expand a doctor’s surgery in Newquay have been approved.

Newquay Health Centre in St Thomas Road has received planning permission from Cornwall Council to update the internal layout to provide two new consulting rooms.

The scheme also involves internal works to convert the existing medical records room within the roof space into office space, including the installation of new roof lights, as well as the replacement of the existing draught lobby at the main entrance with a new version to improve disability access and flow.

The Newquay Voice recently reported Newquay Health Centre is receiving a funding injection from the government to undertake a refurbishment to provide more appointments for patients.

The modernisation will create additional space to boost productivity and improve patient care.

Newquay Town Council’s planning committee had supported the plans due to the benefits the scheme would bring.

The town council committee said: “Councillors welcomed the improvements proposed for the main entrance whilst being satisfied there would be very little change to the exterior of the building.

“The addition of roof lights is considered highly unlikely to impact neighbouring dwellings.

“Councillors did query the absence of renewable energy sources on the plans, but were reassured by the applicant that photovoltaic systems are already in place on the building.”
