PEOPLE are being invited to have their say on plans to improve pedestrian safety at Nansledan.

Cornwall Council has launched a public consultation on proposals to install new pedestrian crossings, a zebra and traffic light crossing, and the removal of parking near the existing crossing to improve visibility.

The scheme includes a new pedestrian crossings at Stret Euther Pendragon and Plen Tennyson as well as improved widened island crossings around the roundabout at the entrance to the estate.

It follows the Make Nansledan Safer — Demand Urgent Action on the A3059 appeal being launched after concerns were raised about safety since the route fully opened.

A council spokesperson said: “The changes to pedestrian crossing facilities in the area, which include the introduction of new pedestrian crossings, a traffic light crossing, a zebra crossing and changes to parking arrangements near an existing crossing.

“These proposals are designed to improve pedestrian safety, enhance visibility for both road users and pedestrians, and ensure that crossing points operate effectively.

“This scheme is being proposed to improve road safety and accessibility for pedestrians, particularly at key crossing points.

“Existing conditions mean that visibility can be limited in some locations, increasing the risk for people crossing the road.

“By introducing the new pedestrian crossings, providing a new zebra crossing, and removing parking near an existing crossing, the scheme aims to reduce conflict between vehicles and pedestrians, improve sight lines, and create a safer, more accessible environment for everyone who uses the street.”

Newquay Porth and Tretherras Cornwall councillor Kevin Towill added: “These proposals are an opportunity for the community to help shape how Nansledan continues to grow.

“Ensuring safe, accessible routes for pedestrians is vital as the area develops, and resident feedback is essential in getting this right.

“The changes are aimed at making it safer and easier for residents especially children, families, and vulnerable pedestrians to move around the community.

“Improving walkability and crossing points has been a consistent priority for many of us in Newquay, and this is another step towards creating safer, more accessible neighbourhoods.

“The community’s input truly helps shape the decisions that affect our daily lives.

“Let’s work together to ensure Nansledan continues to develop as a safe, well‑connected, and community‑focused place to live.

“I strongly encourage everyone to review the plans and have their say.”

Plans have previously been given the green light to introduce a 20mph speed limit along parts of Nansledan following a public consultation being carried out.

The speed limit will be put in place on Stret Myghtern Arthur and Stret Euther Penndragon, as well as various residential side roads previously indicated on the site notice.

The majority of people who responded to the survey stated a 20mph speed limit would enhance the safety of pedestrians, but others raised concerns it would lead to extended journey times and driver frustration.

The latest public consultation to improve pedestrian safety at Nansledan can be found on the Let’s Talk Cornwall website.

The consultation ends on February 27.
