Penzance will play host to a festive light switch-on and magical Christmas market on Saturday, December 2.

Penzance will be illuminated with festive sparkle as it goes to town with the theme of ‘A Cornish Christmas’ this year.

Approximately 5,000 people every year visit Penzance to enjoy this Christmas light switch-on extravaganza.

The lights, which have been funded by Penzance Council who are also responsible for rigging the lights in the town, will be turned on at 5.30pm. The Mayor Stephen Reynolds and Pirate FM will be in attendance hosting the countdown.

There’s street entertainment and music throughout the town all day with Silver Bands and Choirs adding to the day’s festivities.

Santa’s grotto and a Christmas market at St John’s Hall will be happening and the latter will be open throughout the day (10am to 5pm) before the main event.

There will be plenty of gift ideas in the varied independent shops dotted around the town. You can wander the scenic streets of Penzance with a hot chocolate from the markets and marvel at the beautiful displays.

The Christmas window competition will not be running this year, not as previously reported.

The Humphry Davy Lantern Parade takes place on Saturday, December 16. The parade will meet at the top of Causewayhead at 4.30pm before it commences at 5pm.

The all-day market will take place once again, while there will be plenty of arts and crafts, artisan food and drink, music and entertainment to get your teeth into.
