Fears have been raised new parking restrictions proposed in Porth will prevent people from being able to visit Whipsiderry Beach and the headland.
Cornwall Council plans to install double yellow lines along the roads above Whipsiderry after conducting a public consultation.
Surfers, walkers, dog walkers and families are among those who have objected to the plans as they believe anyone who does not live within walking distance of the popular picturesque area will no longer be able to visit.
Some residents have previously called for parking restrictions to be imposed in the area following chaos, particularly in the summer.
But others believe the restriction will force people to park along the main road and into Trevelgue Road where there are no restrictions and cause worse chaos.
Some residents and visitors believe a compromise could be implemented whereby double yellow lines are installed above Whipsiderry Beach but the bays could provide parking.
Roy Major said: “The majority feel that while something needs to be done the implementation of no waiting at any time will only penalize everyone in the quieter months, stopping other residents driving, parking and enjoying our lovely coastline.
“Perhaps more consultation between those residents affected by excessive and chaotic parking and other residents can find a more suitable and long-term solution.
“Maybe no waiting on the road but keeping clearly marked parking areas where they already exist would be a more amicable solution to all parties concerned.”
Tim Anker said: “I think the real frustration we all feel about this proposal is that it brilliantly illustrates the yawning gap between those who are meant to be improving the lives of local people, ie the council, and what local people actually want.
“ ‘Whipsy’ is a much-loved local beach and these plans will remove access to it for all but the select few who live above it. I just can’t see how these parking restrictions are in anyway improving our lot.”
Emma Brewer said: “There were objections to the double yellows on the Watergate layby and they just went ahead anyway.”
St Columb Minor and Colan Cornwall councillor John Fitter said: “I’m in support of no parking along the main road itself that leads from Porth in the direction of Watergate Bay but I’m not in support of any parking restrictions in the laybys that front the hotels.”
