OLYMPIC skateboarder and national champion Lola Tambling will attend the official opening Tregony’s new skate park on Saturday [November 1], and all are invited to attend.
The Saltash supremo will launch the facility at Tregony Sports and Social Club, after which workshops will take place in street art and skateboarding with Coach Frank.
Starting at 2pm, the event will precede Tregony’s annual firework display, which is expected to be busy following the cancellation of similar celebrations in Truro and Falmouth.
Dorian Spackman, chair of Tregony Parish Council, said the idea was born out of the pandemic. “The village kids did their own survey as to what they would like to see in the village, and top of that list was a skate park,” he said. “I got involved with the council around that time, and with two kids of my own, I was passionate about having things for kids to do.
“Tregony’s parish base is largely ageing, so there are lots of things for older people to do, but nothing for kids. That means they roam around, sit on the church steps, ring people’s doorbells – and people complain about them. So I was keen to sort something out, and the project team has worked really hard on it.”

Things gained traction 18 months ago when the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Good Growth Fund released over £90,000 towards the total required. The facility is the 14th in Cornwall to be designed by specialists Maverick Skateparks. “It’s well built, and the kids are all over it,” said Dorian. “It’s the only skate park on the Roseland, so its reach will go all the way to St Mawes and Gorran Haven - the impact it’s going to have is significant.”
Clockhouse Players Annual Firework Display will take place on Tregony Sports Field, with a guy competition from 6pm and fireworks from 7pm.
