NORTH Cornwall’s MP has announced that he has once again been selected as the Liberal Democrat candidate for the area ahead of the next General Election.

Despite being four years away from the next General Election, Ben Maguire, the MP for North Cornwall announced this week that he has been chosen to represent the Liberal Democrat Party.

In his statement, Mr Maguire said: “Very pleased to announce my official re-selection as North Cornwall’s Liberal Democrat candidate at the next General Election!

“It has genuinely been the privilege of my life to serve as North Cornwall’s Member of Parliament over these last two years, having made so much positive ground and achieving a number of wins on our core campaigns.”

Mr Maguire was elected in 2024, turning North Cornwall orange for the first time in nine years following a landslide victory over the area’s former Conservative MP, Scott Mann.

The Liberal Democrat MP received a massive 24,904 votes, over 10,000 more than Scott Mann who received 14,137 votes from members of the public.

Following the announcement of his selection, Mr Maguire has said that he ‘cannot wait to see what else is possible over the next three years’.

He said: “Thanks to each and every person who has emailed in, written to me, or relayed any casework that I’ve been able to take up to Parliament on their behalf. I truly believe we’re working really hard together to build a better North Cornwall, and cannot wait to see what else is possible over the next three years (and beyond!).
