A nine-year-old boy from Cardinham has challenged himself to run 330 miles on the Cornish coast path to raise money for charity.

Freddie Storey wanted to do something which would give him a purpose, said his dad James.

Inspired by his love of sports and a speech given at his school by Chris Lewis, who has just finished walking  the UK coastline, Freddie has taken on a year-long challenge to raise money for the Cornwall Wildlife Trust.

Freddie, who is completing the challenge by running up to six-and-a-half miles a week, has received an Instagram message of support from Olympian Liz McColgan.

The youngster, accompanied by his father, has so far covered from South East Cornwall to Falmouth. James said: “Along the way, we play a game where we have to spot certain things. So far we have seen an adder, a slow-worm, lots and lots of seals, the back of a whale blowing out his blow hole and numerous birds of prey.

“We are hopeful of finishing the run by the end of the summer holidays in 2024.”

Freddie, who has already raised more than £500, hopes that his gruelling challenge will encourage others of all ages to get outdoors and enjoy the benefits of a healthy lifestyle whilst also enjoying the natural sights that the coast offers.

The youngster is also planning to tack e peaks in the UK and abroad.
