A Newquay Voice former columnist has been commended for his outstanding services to the community.

Chris Blount has been presented with the Brian Start Award from The Rotary Club of Newquay.

The President of the Rotary Club of Newquay, Nick Barnes and fellow Rotarians Phil Tickle, Stuart Young and the Reverand Chris McQuillen-Wright were on hand to present the award to Chris, who was accompanied by his wife, Kay.

Nick said: “Chris has been part of this community for an unbelievable 80 years and has regularly regaled his many stories and memories of residing in a seaside town in both the Newquay Voice and on the BBC.

“Perhaps the single project that Chris has given most of his time to over the past 20 years has been the saving of the Trenance Cottages.

“In Chris’ weekly ramblings in the Newquay Voice, he championed popular causes and raised a smile or two.”

Chris said “D’you know, apart from being made a Bard of the Cornish Gorsedh, the honour of the award that the Rotary Club of Newquay has bestowed is top of the tree because it sings of Newquay and the community, I am so proud to feel part of.

“Thank you to the Rotary Club of Newquay.”
