The new extension to Newquay’s popular skatepark is set for lift off.
Newquay Town Council is due to open phase two to Concrete Waves in the “coming weeks.”
The extension, which is being built by Maverick Skateparks, introduces a brand-new area designed specifically to cater to newer riders, offering them a space to test and refine their skills before progressing to the more challenging sections of the park.
A town council spokesperson said: “We are pleased to announce the imminent completion of the extension to the Concrete Waves Skatepark, a project that has been eagerly anticipated by the community.
“The new extension, set to be finalised within the coming weeks, marks a significant addition to the skatepark, providing an enhanced experience for riders of all skill levels.
“The extension is testament to the town council’s commitment to continuous improvement of our park.
“Over the years since its completion, we have invested in additional seating, lighting, CCTV, and toilets to ensure that it’s more than just a skatepark – it’s a hub the community can be proud of.
“Whilst the extension is being carried out, the contractor on site is giving the main park a general refresh, touching up the paint and tiles etc.
“The town council will also be undertaking the tree replacement programme as previously agreed, with a view to bring in new native trees to the area along with other planned planting enhancement over the year.
“In line with the town council's dedication to maintaining the highest standards at the skatepark, the contractor will also be applying a water-based coating to the park and the extension, ensuring the longevity and quality of the facility for years to come.
“Newquay Town Council is extremely proud of Concrete Waves and what it means for our community, and we will continue to invest and improve over the coming years to ensure it remains a world-class facility.
“With the park extension on track for completion before Easter, we are excited for you to explore the new area and we welcome people’s feedback.”
Cllr Andy Hannan said: “Having worked on this project since the replacement of the old Wooden Waves, I am really excited to witness this further development of our class leading facility.
“It was always our vision to extend the park, to offer those wanting to start skateboarding and BMX riding an opportunity to hone their skills, without impacting on the more experienced users.
“I hope that everyone will benefit from this new addition and that it opens the door to many new potential champions in this ever-popular sport.
