THE community is being invited to attend the official unveiling of a new £150,000 children’s play park in Newquay.
Newquay Town Council is staging the grand opening of the Mount Wise Gardens Play Park on Wednesday, September 2 from 12pm to 2pm.
The facility includes climbing frames, slides, a bug magnifier, an inclusive totem, interactive play panels, a pirate’s lookout, a hammock and a somersault bar.
The play park was built by outdoor playground manufacturer Wicksteed and funded through a £50,000 donation from the Boardmasters Foundation as well as £100,000 of Community Infrastructure Levy.

Mayor Drew Creek will officially open the park at the event, and attendees will be able to enjoy free refreshments while exploring the new facilities.
A final independent safety inspection is scheduled for August 27. Subject to the outcome of that inspection, the park may open to the public ahead of the official opening event. Residents are encouraged to follow Newquay Town Council's social media channels for updates and any announcement regarding a potential soft opening as an exact date cannot yet be confirmed.
A spokesperson for the town council said: “The event will celebrate the completion of a major investment in Mount Wise Gardens, following community consultation and engagement which helped shape the final design of the project.
“The play park has been delivered over the summer by leading playground specialist Wicksteed and features a wide range of modern, accessible and inclusive play equipment designed to provide meaningful play opportunities for children of all ages and abilities.
“The project forms part of Newquay Town Council's commitment to improving community services and enhancing public spaces across the town. Alongside the new play facilities, the improvements aim to encourage outdoor activity, social interaction and greater use of the gardens by residents and visitors alike, supporting health, wellbeing and community cohesion.
“Over recent weeks, the estates team has been working hard to prepare the site for opening, carrying out health and safety checks, applying the finishing touches and tackling overgrown vegetation around the gardens to ensure the area is welcoming and ready for the community to enjoy.”
Dan Watkin, director of operations at Newquay Town Council, added: "It is fantastic to see this project reach completion after many months of planning, consultation and construction. Community feedback played an important role in shaping the final scheme, and we are proud to deliver a new play space that is inclusive, engaging and designed to serve the local community for many years to come.
“This represents a significant investment in one of our valued public spaces and demonstrates the town council’s commitment to enhancing community facilities and regenerating local spaces. We look forward to welcoming residents and visitors to the opening event and seeing Mount Wise Gardens become an even more vibrant focal point for the community."
Newquay Town Council is keen to hear from park users once the facility is open. Residents are encouraged to share their feedback and report any snagging issues to [email protected] so that any necessary improvements can be addressed promptly.
