A NEW station commander has taken the helm at RAF St Mawgan.

Wing Commander Gareth Elliott MBE has taken over the command of the airbase from Wing Commander Helen Simpson.

A spokesperson said: “We bid a grateful farewell to Wg Cdr Simpson as she departs RAF St Mawgan and Cornwall.

“We thank her for her dedicated service and offer our warmest congratulations on her promotion to Group Captain.

“We are delighted to welcome our new Station Commander, Wing Commander Gareth Elliott MBE.

Wing Commander Elliott joined the Royal Air Force in January 2007. On completion of
Initial Officer Training at RAF College Cranwell and specialist training at RAF Halton, he
undertook a number of foundation junior officer appointments at HQ Air Command and as
Officer Commanding Mechanical Transport and Fuels Flight at RAF Leuchars. Selected for

“With an extensive logistics background, Wg Cdr Elliott brings a wealth of global experience to the role from operational deployments in Afghanistan to managing complex supply chains across the Americas and Africa.

“Most recently, he has been working in support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.”
