NEW security radios have been rolled out to beach operators in Newquay to enhance people’s safety.

Newquay BID has distributed the devices to various beaches including Fistral and Tolcarne to help deter anti-social behaviour, underage drinking and low-level crime.

The radios, which have been funded with support from the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner, they will significantly enhance real-time communication between key safety partners, including beach lifeguards, police, CCTV operators, and town rangers.

The addition of the technology strengthens Newquay’s already robust safety framework, which includes an extensive CCTV network, visible town ranger patrols, and strong police collaboration.

Newquay BID manager Mark Warren said: “These radios are a fantastic addition to our community safety toolkit.

“They will help ensure quicker response times, better coordination, and a stronger deterrent presence, keeping our residents, local businesses, and visiting tourists safe throughout the year.”

Newquay BID is also issuing further radios throughout the high street to support the town centre. The extension aims to bolster security for local businesses and visitors, particularly during the busy summer season.

Mr Warren said: “The initiative reflects Newquay BID’s continued commitment to making the town a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable destination for all. As one of the UK’s most visited coastal towns, safety remains a top priority for those who live in, work in, and visit Newquay.”
