A new Methodist Centre officially opened in Newquay on Sunday.

A dedication service was held at the Oasis Centre in Pargolla Road.

More than 150 people attended an open day on Saturday to have a look around the facilities at the worship and community building as well as check out the services and activities being offered.

The centre features a flexible worship area, rooms for community groups, and a large kitchen where people can gather over a cuppa.

A public reflection garden has been created outside that includes bench seating, planting, a herb area, and an olive tree, which will serve as a memory tree. The new building also features a fully accessible Changing Places toilet, designed for people with disabilities, making it one of only a few such facilities in the Newquay area.

The Methodist Church, funded by the sale of three former churches, replaces the temporary hub in Nansledan.

The church has previously been based in various locations, including Bishop’s Academy.

Operations manager Alyce Finney said: “The number of people attending the open day exceeded our expectations.

“The centre has already received so much positive feedback, and we can’t wait to roll out the planned activities.

“We also had our dedication service, which was heavily attended to mark the opening of our new building.”
