Residents are being given an opportunity to have their say on plans to build a new council hub in a Cornish town.

Cornwall Council proposes to create the Liskeard Integrated Services Hub in the north-west portion of the former Cattle Market site.

The hub will cater for multiple services including a family hub, registrars, adult education and the Department of Work and Pensions.

The development will be part of a wider masterplan for the town centre site, which also includes new workspace units and community space.

People are being invited to undertake a council survey to provide feedback on the plans and suggestions for what the building could be called via the council’s Let’s Talk website.

The website contains detailed plans of the scheme, which include the internal layout, the council hub’s boundary within the former Cattle Market site, floor plans and elevations.

A spokesman for Cornwall Council said: “As an organisation we are looking to do something different with the buildings we deliver services from.

“We want to create a single space for our customers to access multiple services and meet the needs of the local community.

“A review of the Liskeard area has been carried out and, after considering various options, we have decided to build a new service hub.

“We know that the needs of our communities, and the way in which they want to access our buildings have changed, and we want to change with them.”

The Liskeard hub will replace a number of buildings that have been used by the council, including Luxstowe House, Graylands, Laity House and Westbourne House.

The spokesman said: “Combining these public sector services under a single, brand new, flexible centre has benefits.

“Expectations are that Cornwall Council would be able to cut its operating expenses and carbon footprint.

“The integrated hub will provide accommodation for a range of services. The intention is the building will be flexible to adapt to changing demand.”

Liskeard Cornwall Councillor Nick Craker said: “I’m pleased Cornwall Council is now able to share the council hub plans within the community.

“This will make a significant investment by the council in a new energy-efficient building to serve Liskeard and the wider South East Cornwall. I like what I see with the plans but I think more work needs to be done to ensure all council officers who previously worked at Luxstowe, Graylands and Laity House can be accommodated in this new integrated hub.”
