A much-loved Newquay surf shop is set to disappear from the high street after the premises was sold.

Sunset Surf Shop in Fore Street is due to close down in mid October bit will be continuing with online sales.

The new owner is leasing the building out and plans to renovate the upstairs to accommodation in around two years time.

Amanda Charles, the owner of Sunset Surf Shop, in a social media post, said: “I remember on a cold January day in 2008 being handed the keys and walking into Sunset.

“Fast forward nearly 18 years later. We made a brand of sustainable clothing along with surf shop and hire, and we made sister brand of Made of water, sustainable swimwear my current passion.

“Sunset is more than a shop it’s a social hub for locals and tourists that over years became friends.

“However, after nearly 18 years in shop it’s become very clear that time is my most important commodity.

“Sunset will continue online with a fresh new website in the making.

“Made of Water will continue too and hopefully grow my ideas and passion but I need time to swim, to be in the ocean to travel.

“Letting go of the shop lets me free up time. I’d like to thank 18 years of joy, the locals the customers the community.”
