THE busiest supermarket in Newquay has undergone a near £2-million refurbishment.

Morrisons Newquay in Treloggan Road has had a full refrigeration refit, which has been officially unveiled by mayor Cllr Drew Creek.

The upgraded units are designed to keep food fresher for longer through more consistent and precise temperature control. The fridges have also been designed with lower energy consumption in mind as part of Morrisons commitment to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

Cllr Creek cut a ribbon under an arch of balloons to officially launch the store upgrade on Monday, June 22.

The celebration also showcased local Cornish producers, with sampling available from Jolly's Drinks, St Austell Brewery, and Furniss Biscuits, “highlighting the strong links between the store and local suppliers.”

A Morrisons spokesperson said: “The full refrigeration refit is perfectly timed with the warmer weather, to bring a range of benefits as customers will experience easier navigation of chilled and fresh food, alongside improved product visibility and display quality, making shopping at Morrisons Newquay even easier for local shoppers.”

Katie Bonner, Morrisons Newquay store manager, added: “We're excited to have been selected to benefit from upgraded refrigerators.

“It’s been brilliant to celebrate with our community, alongside mayor Drew Creek and some of our valued local suppliers. The new fridges provide a brighter, easier shopping experience and help ensure products stay fresher for longer, meaning they are a great investment for both our local store and our customers”.

Cllr Creek said: “It is always exciting when we get investment in our town.

“This investment for the Newquay Morrisons, the largest supermarket in the town, is brilliant.

“I hope the team at Morrisons do really well this summer with the fresh new look serving both residents and visitors.”
