PLANS to build 108 new homes on the edge of Camborne have been approved this week by Cornwall Council’s planning department.

Robertson Developments Ltd submitted plans last November to build 108 homes – including 27 affordable properties on land south of Crane Park, Boundervean Lane, Penponds.

The development was approved with conditions on Wednesday (February 11).

Known as Cranleigh, the housing estate will be built south of Camborne Science and International Academy and to the west of an existing Robertson Developments Ltd site known as Tregenna Lea, which is currently under construction.

The site is easily accessible to the A30 and A3047 to the north and close to local parks, St Meriadoc junior and infant schools and Camborne Rugby Club.

The development will be a mix of properties from one-bedroom maisonettes through to four-bedroom houses. The affordable homes will be either rented or shared ownership properties.

The main access will be an extension/continuation of the phase one development and will bring pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles into the site.

A supporting planning statement said: “The development is essentially a cul-de-sac; however, there is very good connectivity to the north, south, east and west by the provision of various footways that would connect not only to the public rights of way, but also internally as a ‘recreational route’ around the development fringes.

“Key connections to the national cycle route to the north are also expressly made to further enhance the connectivity credentials.”

Car parking will be provided at a ratio of one space for one-bedroom flats and two spaces each for bungalows, two-bed and three-bed houses. Four-bed houses will be provided with a range of two and three spaces.

A key part of the development concept was to provide improved links to the rugby club and Camborne School of Mines Memorial Ground.
