I HAVE for some time been leading on a bid to deliver a brand-new play park in the Mount Wise Gardens area.

A project that would create the first dedicated play park for Central Newquay, serving children from across our whole community.

This is a cause close to my heart. Mount Wise is a beautiful garden space that has sadly seen decline over recent years and has become an area where anti-social behaviour has become far too prevalent.

A new, vibrant play park will breathe life back into the gardens and give our young families a safe, exciting space to enjoy.

I am thrilled to announce we have completed our tender process and appointed a lead contractor.

Together, we have developed detailed plans for the new park.

On Friday, I had the absolute pleasure of taking these plans to Newquay Junior Academy to present them to the school councillors.

A number of the students had previously expressed dissatisfaction in the park delivered as it is targeting younger children.

The energy and excitement from the children was wonderful to see. Barring a couple of minor tweaks they suggested, I was delighted to receive their enthusiastic sign-off.

I want to thank the school and children. With the children's approval secured, we can now press the button on the order. Work will begin in earnest. We expect the play park to be delivered around summertime.

A GRADUAL improvement in the weather hopefully. Maybe bit of rain tomorrow, but generally mild.

A couple of boats are back from Wadebridge boatyard after maintenance, so hopefully a bit of fishing this week.

The Trelawny Shout with Rowing Club Singers will be staged in the Rowing Club on Thursday at 9pm. No band this Saturday at the rowing club.
