EASTER is well and truly in full swing in Newquay, and what a weekend it was.

Newquay Town Council’s Easter Egg Extravaganza, alongside Newquay BID’s monthly market, brought so many families out to enjoy everything our town has to offer.

A massive thank you must go to the town council events team, who pulled off a fantastic event despite Storm Dave forcing some last-minute changes.

Their dedication paid off with more than 600 Easter eggs given away.

If you haven’t taken part yet, there’s still time to join the Easter Trail, so get the family out and exploring.

Last week I had my monthly walkabout with Newquay BID manager Mark Warren, which is always a highlight.

We talked through ideas and improvements for the town, and along the way stopped in to meet Gemma and the team at Ruby’s ice cream shop on Bank Street. It would have been quite rude not to sample their wonderful offerings and they did not disappoint.

It was also heartening to see new businesses continuing to open on our high street. In a challenging economic climate, that kind of enterprise and optimism says a great deal about the spirit of Newquay.

Wishing everyone a wonderful Easter holiday enjoy every moment with your families.

Phil Trebilcock: Harbour View

After a rainy start to the week the weather is better today, but cloudy and mild for the rest of the week.

The concreting at Active Cellars seems to be taking a long time. I’m not sure why.

On the fishing side, one or two octopus are starting to be caught. All the boats are back in the water. A couple are back from Wadebridge. We need some fine weather now.

There is no band this Saturday at Newquay Rowing Club.

Thought for the week: “In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity.”
