The mayor of Bodmin has expressed the hope that footfall will increase in the town centre.
Philip Cooper made the comments after officially opening a new venture in the town.
Cllr Cooper said: “On Saturday, Carolyn and I were delighted to be invited to officially open Rhubarb@No4 in Honey Street.
“Danielle was keen to thank the landlord Robin and husband Nick and everyone in the teams for their support in making it happen.
“They will be looking to enhance the offer with Bottomless Brunch, Afternoon Tipsy Tea and tapas grazing boards.
“It is good that individuals see the great potential that investing in Bodmin can bring.
“Like the majority of towns, we are striving to improve the offer and experience and are working with our community and stakeholders on the production of the Neighbourhood Plan that will assist in this.
“Geographically, Bodmin is strategically placed, with easy access to the main roads. We have a fantastic USP (unique selling point) as the county town with its rich and varied history with a number of fantastic tourist attractions. These include Lanhydrock House, that attracts some 300,000 visitors a year, Bodmin Jail, whose business plan is to attract some 200,000 to 250,000 visitors a year, the Bodmin steam railway that would like to increase visitor numbers to 100,000, Bodmin Keep (a fantastic military musuem), St Petroc’s Church which is grade I listed, Discovering42, the award-winning interactive science experience, and our own town museum based on Mount Folly, plus, of course, the Camel Trail. Just think how vibrant the town centre could be if we can encourage movement of the visitors between the attractions and increased dwell time in the town centre.”
