Last week provided two powerful reminders of what makes our town so special: a commitment to our future, and a profound respect for our past. It was a privilege to stand with 40 brilliant children from Newquay Junior School as we tore down and recycled over 80 polystyrene bodyboards. This hands-on effort ensures harmful components won't pollute our ocean, turning a problem into a powerful lesson. The strong media presence was vital, as our local actions alone cannot solve this national issue. I will be writing to our MP to highlight this excellent community work and to urge the Government to act on banning these environmentally destructive boards. This forward-looking work was beautifully balanced by our community’s solemn Remembrance events. For the third year, it was my profound honour to stand alongside a senior officer from RAF St Mawgan, saluting as our parade came through town. These moments of reflection always bring me back to my own grandfather, who served in WW2. I know each of us holds special memories of service personnel, past and present, and I was immensely proud of the dignified event our town delivered. A huge thank you to the organisers and our armed forces at home and abroad. A particular, heartfelt well done must go to the children who participated in the parade. Marching alongside them and seeing their respect was truly moving. They are a credit to Newquay. In one week, we saw our community protect our natural heritage and honour our national heritage. That is the spirit of Newquay I am so proud to serve.
