One of the greatest privileges of being your mayor is seeing firsthand the incredible passion and dedication of our local community groups. This week, I was delighted to champion two fantastic examples of this spirit in action.

First, it was a genuine pleasure to secure the support of Newquay Town Council for the wonderful Friends of Crantock Street Garden. This agreement will provide them with funds to upgrade their licence to a full lease with Cornwall Council. This might sound like a small administrative step, but it is the crucial key that unlocks the door to their future. This dedicated group has successfully secured an incredible £100,000 in investment to completely reinvigorate and improve this cherished space.

My sincere thanks go to the councillors who supported my recommendation, and to the officers at both the town and Cornwall Council for their work behind the scenes. Most of all, thank you to the brilliant volunteers. I cannot wait to see your vision take shape and create an even better community area for everyone.

On a similarly cheerful note, my family and I had a lovely time this weekend at the Trenance Cottages' 10-year celebration event. I must admit, I was watching the skies with a little worry, but the sun shone brightly for us on Sunday afternoon, making it a perfect day for the festivities. I was honoured to draw the raffle, which raised an amazing £1,700 for this vital piece of Newquay’s cultural heritage. The event was a testament to the hard work of the incredible volunteers who keep the history and heart of the Trenance Cottages alive. Thank you to everyone involved—here’s to another wonderful ten years! It’s projects and people like these that make Newquay such a special place to live.

A much better outlook, after a long spell of wind and rain, south easterly winds and dry. This weekend hopefully will be the ladies gig championships on Saturday and men’s on Sunday. Hopefully there will be no swell.

Excellent time in the Scillies last weekend with a bit of rowing and quality singing. There is a disco in Rowing Club this Saturday, possibly Sunday as well.
