As we welcome the excitement of Boardmasters, Newquay’s busiest week, I’m reflecting on what makes our town so special.
Leading the RNLI Lifeboat Day parade through our streets to the harbour was a true honour. It remains one of my absolute favourite days of the year, especially in my second year as your Mayor.
For over 160 years, the RNLI has been a vital part of Newquay’s heart. Every volunteer – whether on the lifeboats, in the shop, or raising crucial funds – deserves our deepest thanks and unwavering support. Their commitment to saving lives at sea, often at personal risk, is an extraordinary service we must never take for granted. As Mayor, my profound gratitude goes out to each and every one of them.
Boardmasters brings hundreds of thousands of visitors, and it’s a time when our town truly comes alive. I personally relish the incredible buzz and look forward to the world-class surf action at Fistral. Last year set a high bar with thrilling competition, crowned by local hero Lukas Skinner’s victory presenting those trophies was a genuine privilege. Let’s hope this year’s contest delivers that same spectacular energy for us all to enjoy!
I’m also thrilled to see even more happening at Fistral this year, especially the return of the popular skate ramp. It’s sure to be a highlight for many. I look forward to seeing plenty of you down there enjoying the festival atmosphere throughout this vibrant week.
