This past weekend, Newquay came alive with the first ever Newquay Food Festival on the Killacourt.

The event was a wonderful celebration of our local food and community spirit, with great weather, delicious produce, and fantastic music bringing everyone together. My thanks go to all the producers, chefs and volunteers who worked so hard to make it such a success. It's events like this that showcase the very best of what makes our town special.

Earlier this week, Councillor Liz Wright and I met with representatives from all of Newquay's schools to discuss the Smartphone-Free Schools Initiative. It was encouraging to hear from teachers, governors and parents about how we can create better learning environments for our children. The evidence shows reducing smartphone use in schools leads to improved concentration, better mental wellbeing and more social interaction between pupils. We're committed to finding the right approach for Newquay's schools and will keep working closely with them on this important issue.

Looking ahead, I will be meeting with the Duchy of Cornwall this week to discuss their proposals around signage that refers to "Nansledan and Newquay". While I welcome investment in clear wayfinding, I want to be absolutely clear that Nansledan is part of Newquay, not a separate entity. Our town's identity matters, and any new signage must reflect that Nansledan is within Newquay. I will be making this position very clear in our discussions. I stand firm, it’s Newquay or nothing!

Phil Trebilcock’s Harbour View

After a perfect weekend, the weather is more changeable this week. A few showers are expected. It is possibly better on Saturday.

There are more visitors around now. It is busier around the harbour. This Sunday is the under 16 rowing championships . This Saturday Play it Cool are playing in the Rowing Club at 9pm. Thought for the week: “Gratitude turns what we have into enough.”
