This week, my thoughts remain with everyone affected by last week’s Storm Gorreti.

The cleanup operation continues, and the scale has been staggering. I understand we saw more trees come down in our area that evening than would typically be expected in a decade.

It has been a profound challenge. Yet, in that challenge, our community’s spirit has shone through. My deepest thanks go to our dedicated town and county council officers, Cormac teams, and emergency services who have worked tirelessly. Even more, my gratitude extends to every single resident who has checked on a neighbour, cleared a path, or offered a helping hand.

This collective effort is the very heart of what makes our town strong.

Turning to brighter news, I was pleased last week to join officers and fellow councillor Slade at Newquay Town Council to begin reviewing tenders for the new Mount Wise Play Park. This is a landmark project for our families, and we are now meticulously assessing the bids. We hope to identify a lead contractor in the coming weeks, taking us a significant step closer to delivering this fantastic new facility for our children.

Finally, a quick reminder, if you still have a real Christmas tree on your driveway, it’s not too late to give it a green farewell! Please drop it off at the South Fistral car park recycling point. Our town council team will chip them all, and the mulch will be used to nurture flower beds across our town – a wonderful way to recycle. Despite the winter’s trials, we are moving forward together. Stay safe, and look out for one another.

Phil Trebilcock’s Harbour View

A much milder week now, light south easterly winds, few showers. Two gigs have been painted and varnished. Now the Treffry is having a paint job. A few potholes in the harbour car park are being done in the next couple of weeks and the Active parking area. Another angling boat has been been sold to Wales. This Saturday Blue Eyed Candy is playing at the Rowing Club at 9pm.
