Firstly, I was delighted to officially unveil our latest free water refill station at beautiful Porth Beach last week.
This project continues our vital partnership with the fantastic charity Our Only World. Their mission to restore ocean health resonates deeply with this town council's core values and commitment to protecting our precious environment.
Following the successful installation on the Killacourt, I was asked last summer to deliver a refill point at Porth, and I’m only too happy to have fulfilled that promise. This single station will make a real difference, helping to protect our stunning coastline and marine life by preventing thousands of plastic water bottles from entering our oceans.
On a much more sombre note, I was deeply saddened to witness the fire on Narrowcliff this week. I happened upon the scene just minutes after our brave fire crews arrived.
My heart goes out, and I know the hearts of the whole town go out, to the family and friends of the person who tragically lost their life in this terrible incident. This tragedy also brought into sharp focus the incredible courage and dedication of our Newquay firefighters. On behalf of our entire community, I want to express our profound gratitude. You run towards danger to protect us and our homes, putting yourselves at risk every time. You are true heroes, and we are so grateful for your service.
It was a privilege then, on a brighter note, to shift gears on Saturday and be asked to judge the Community Dog Show at our wonderful Newquay Orchard. Huge thanks to Matt and Gemma from Imagine Outdoors CIC for organising such a joyful event.
They put on a fantastic show with dozens of dogs entering all sorts of fun categories. Alongside Lynn from the Guide Dogs charity, we had the tough job of picking winners. It was an absolute delight. Seeing so many members of our community, two-legged and four-legged, come together in the sunshine at the Orchard was exactly the uplifting spirit we needed. Thank you again to Matt, Gemma, and everyone at the Orchard for hosting such a heartwarming event. It truly showcased the best of Newquay’s community spirit.

A cloudy start to the week, which is improving towards the weekend.
This Saturday is Lifeboat Day, with Padstow lifeboat in attendance as well. Two passenger boats are for sale, and one commercial fishing boat as well.
This Saturday Blue Eyed Candy are playing at the Rowing Club at 9pm.
Thought for the week: “Patience is the best attitude while waiting.”
