Thank You, Newquay. Friday night’s Christmas light switch-on was nothing short of historic. The biggest in Newquay’s history. Thousands of you joined us on the Killacourt for a truly special festive celebration, and the atmosphere was a perfect reflection of our community spirit.
We began planning this event a year ago, and after last year's success. My ask to the team was simple, go bigger and better. I am delighted to say they pulled it off spectacularly. My sincere thanks go to the incredible performers who lit up the stage: Wicked Live UK, the Forever Swift tribute, Bubbles the Pixie, and Radio Newquay for keeping the energy high all evening.
Hosting this event for the second time as your mayor was a true privilege, made even more special by our wonderful guests from Newquay Junior School. A huge thank you to Rayyan, Dusty, Ziggy, and Alyssa…you were awesome.
Thanks also to their parents, the school staff, and headteacher Tania Findlay MBE for allowing them to be part of the magic. The celebration didn’t stop there.
We enjoyed a whole weekend of entertainment and festive shopping on the Killacourt, with bands all day Saturday, including a favourite of mine, The Newqs, plus a giant snow globe, rides, and even real reindeer. It was the perfect weekend to launch our Christmas run-up. The biggest thank you goes to you, Newquay, for coming out and making it so memorable. I must also thank our partners at Newquay BID and Shop Small Cornwall for their support with the market. Above all, immense gratitude goes to the organisers, my fellow councillors, the entire team at Newquay Town Council, and especially our Events Manager, Amy, who absolutely knocked it out of the park! Wishing you all a joyful festive season.
Phil Trebilcock’s Harbour View
After a wet start to the week, a better day today, but very changeable for the rest of the week. One of the commercial boats has been sold and is staying in the harbour, another one has gone to Wadebridge boatyard. A couple of Tuna have been spotted close to the headland, chasing shoals of small fish. People have probably noticed Gannets diving in the bay as well. No band at the Rowing Club this Saturda. Sunday is Slurp & Chirp at 3pm. All Welcome.
Thought for the Week: “The quiet moments are where wisdom is born.”
