A manifesto aimed at achieving a crime-free Camborne has been presented to the police and crime commissioner for Devon and Cornwall and the leader of Cornwall Council.
Compiled with input from more than 300 local businesses, the document was produced by Camborne’s Business Improvement Development (BID).
The manifesto sets out the BID’s key priorities for the town centre. These include:
- Catching drug dealers and those on bikes facilitating drug pick-ups.
- Moving the pods out of Rosewarne car park to a more suitable support location and enabling a boost to the visitor economy with a return of coach trip tourism to Camborne.
- Installing ANPR cameras and AUG speed cameras to deter illegal vehicles and anti-social behaviour, in particular noise nuisance and speeding.
- Carrying out spot checks on cars and bikes on the main street at night.
- Ensuring continued orders against individuals and groups using alcohol, substances and foul language in public.
- Putting a stop to early-stage problem behaviour by issuing warnings or confiscating bikes and scooters when found riding on the pavement.
BID Camborne wants police and council partners’ help in achieving these priorities and financial contributions towards ongoing funding of its app-based DISC system, branded as BID:BIS, the Camborne Business Intelligence Scheme. BID:BIS has scored record levels of engagement and resulting convictions since its launch last year and is due for renewal in September 2025.
BID Camborne manager Anna Pascoe said: “We are asking the commissioner Alison Hernandez and council leader Leigh Frost to meet us and other stakeholders to discuss how we can better work together in making Camborne crime-free.”
“We are proud of the leading role our member businesses, directors and management team have played in our progress to date. That includes proactive participation in Pubwatch, compilation of the ASB (Anti-Social Behaviour) and Crime Survey and our procurement of DISC.
“We are making big strides forward and, with collaboration from key organisations, firmly believe we can go a lot further.”
BID Camborne’s manifesto has been shared with Pubwatch Camborne, Camborne Town Council, Cornwall councillors representing Camborne wards, Safer Camborne, Camborne Regeneration Forum and Neighbourhood Watch.
