Majestic Wine opened its second Cornwall store today [Friday, October 17], in the former Iceland supermarket in Truro’s Fairmantle Street. It now stocks more than 1,200 wines over 5,100 sq ft, plus beers, spirits, and low- and no-alternatives.
Customers can enjoy free in-store tastings seven days a week, with staff trained through the Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET), as well as free click-and-collect, home delivery and glass hire.
Online shoppers can order for free next-day delivery via the store’s own dedicated van, or click-and-collect within as little as four hours.
The store will also take advantage of a large footprint to support on-trade supply business Majestic Commercial in delivering to pubs, bars and restaurants across Cornwall.
The store is Majestic Wine’s first foray into the Duchy since Falmouth was opened in 2012. Managing director Elizabeth Newman said: “Truro is a location that’s been on our radar for a number of years, so we are delighted to be bringing our award-winning wines and expertise to the city.”
Cllr Chris Wells, mayor of Truro, cut the ribbon to open the store. “I welcome Majestic Wine to Truro, giving much-needed employment to local people. This building has been empty for too long, at one of the main entrances to the city centre. I hope Majestic trades well.”
Alun Jones, manager of Truro Business Improvement District (BID), agreed. “It’s good to see an empty business premises put back into use, and to see the building brought up to this standard by Majestic Wine is fantastic news for Truro.
“The store is bright and colourful, and the selection of wines is astonishing. I’m sure it’s going to develop a loyal customer following which will be beneficial to Truro traders as a whole.”
