The Lions Club of Truro held their annual Crystal Golf Event at Truro Golf Club in hot and humid conditions this month. 

Just under 50 teams entered the 18-hole competition, which is open to all players in aid of charity. 

This year’s main charity was the Motor Neurone Disease Association (Cornwall Branch), while other local good causes including Penhaligon’s Friends. 

The winners of the Crystal Trophy were Dave Cilla and St Austell Members with 93 points. The Ladies’ Crystal Winning Team was CAW (Cornwall) Ltd with 89 points. 

John Grant of the Cormac Finest Team scored only the second hole-in-one in 32 years of the competition, and was rewarded with a crystal trophy. 

An evening auction managed by Bob Mosley took place followed by a raffle, both extremely well supported and raising a significant amount of money – first indications show a figure close to £8,000.  

Geoff said: “It was a fantastic turnout given the continuing difficult conditions the country is experiencing at this time. 

“A big thanks to everyone for taking part, and to the organising committee for all the hard work put in. Thanks also to the golf club for making sure the course was in top condition and providing an excellent evening meal served to the competitors. We were delighted that Truro Golf Club captain Peter Brooks invited us back for next year. 

Finally, a big thank you by the for planning the event plus very significant help from fellow Lions and partners before, during and after the event, including those who cooked and served refreshments to the players halfway round the course.” 

James Miller and Associates, MOR Interiors, Handelsbanken, Paul Macintosh, Skinners/Goodh Brewery, Tregunna Funeral Directors, BeGorgeous Hair, Cathedral Chiropractic and 3MS Maintenance were among the sponsors. 

At the end of the evening Lion President Richard Moore presented the prizes as follows:

• Putting Competition: John Elder
