KEEN swimmers and athletes are invited to sign up to an RNLI challenge this autumn, racing across one of Cornwall’s most picturesque coastal landscapes in support of the charity’s lifesaving mission.
The RNLI Buoy to Beacon Swim-Run challenge will take place in St Agnes on Saturday, September 13. Starting at Trevaunance Cove, participants will take on a 1,000m open-water swim out to the marker buoy and back. From there, they will transition straight into a demanding 5km run, ascending the landmark St Agnes Beacon before descending back to the cove.
All participants are encouraged to set up sponsorship pages to encourage friends, family, and colleagues to donate. Every single pound raised will contribute directly to the RNLI's vital work in preventing drownings and rescuing those in peril along our coasts, supporting the charity’s lifeguard service and volunteer lifeboat crews.
RNLI Community Manager and event organiser Esther Farrant said: “The Buoy-to-Beacon Swim-Run is more than just a physical challenge - it's a chance to connect with our incredible coastline and directly support the lifesavers who keep us safe.
“Every stroke and every step taken by our participants will reflect the sponsorship funds that help ensure our volunteer crews have the training and equipment they need to answer the call, day or night.”
The event is supported by the St Agnes Surf Life Saving Club, who will also be hosting a barbecue at Trevaunance Cove, offering a well-earned reward for participants after a morning of swimming and running.
The participation fee for this event is £30 (£24 for under-18s) and everyone is encouraged to pledge to raise additional money through sponsorship. To find out more details and register, visit www.eventbrite.co.uk and search for RNLI Buoy to Beacon Swim-Run 2025.
