Charlestown beach and quay had to be evacuated on Saturday when the Cornwall Air Ambulance was called out to an injured person.

St Austell Coastguard took the initial call and were first on the scene, stabilising the casualty while awaiting support from the South Western Ambulance Service and Cornwall Air Ambulance.

Mevagissey Coastguard also helped out. “We were paged at 12.22 hours to assist St Austell Coastguard with a medical emergency at Charlestown Harbour, after a lady fell on the rocks,” said a spokesperson. “Cornwall Air Ambulance conducted an impressive manoeuvre by hovering just above the ground, allowing the medical crew to alight on scene. The helicopter then landed at St Austell Rubgy Club. Thank you to the public who evacuated from the beach and harbour wall to allow the aircraft to approach.”
