THE village of Grampound is gearing up for its annual carnival week which takes place at the start of September.
Carnival week at the village has always provided an opportunity to bring the community closer together and this year is sure to put smiles on faces. Events will be taking place throughout the week culminating with the village’s popular Carnival Day on September 6.
Here’s what to expect in Grampound over the coming week:
Monday, September 1 - Horse Racing Night at Village Hall. Starting at 7.30pm, licensed bar, pasties and snacks available. All welcome for a fun evening.
Tuesday, September 2 - Bowls Dash with Grampound Bowling Club. Meeting on the green from 6.15pm for a fun knockout competition. Limited numbers. Burgers and hot dogs will be on sale plus the bar will be open.
Wednesday, September 3 - Roger Paynter 6th Memorial Match. Organised by Grampound Football Club, the memorial match will take place at The Recreation Ground (6.15pm KO).
Thursday, September 4 - Quiz Night at Village Hall. Doors open 7pm for a 7.30pm start, teams of up to 6, bar will be open.
Friday, September 5 - Carnival Prize Bingo at Village Hall. A fun evening of bingo run by Grampound Bowling Club for the carnival. Lots of prizes including cash, chicken dinners and a raffle. Doors open 7pm, eyes down 7.30pm, bar plus refreshments available.
Saturday, September 6 - Carnival Day. Car boot and fete open from 1pm, judging at 5pm, street procession at 6pm followed by prize giving, food and evening entertainment in the village hall by Still Dizzy at 8.30pm.
New for 2025 is a scarecrow competition. Residents can built and place their scarecrow outside their homes ready for judging on carnival week. A prize will be awarded to the winner. To register, email: [email protected]
