A big fundraising push was made at Crantock on Friday night, which raised thousands of pounds for charity.

Hundreds of people took part and watched the 22nd Crantock Bale Push in aid of Little Harbour Children’s Hospice South West, Dyslexia Cornwall and Just Breathe Cornwall as well as other local groups and organisations.

One hundred and seven teams competed in the event pushing huge bales of hay through the streets, which is the village’s biggest fundraiser of the year.

The 180 competition that combines the ages of all members of the teams was won by Crantock Surf Lifesaving Club in a time of three minutes and 14 seconds.

Forty three teams took part in the Open event pushing the 400lbs round straw bale around the quarter mile course. Newly crowned winners Catch 22 won in a time of two minutes and 44 seconds

The Ladies event was won the highly successful Newquay hockey Club ‘Chicks with Sticks’ who pipped Crantock Crannies by one second to take the trophy for the 13th time in a time of two minutes and 32 seconds.

The 16 years and under races were closely fought with Most Physical beating The Yellow Bales into second place. Newquay Hornets 2 beat the other 20 teams to take top place in the 12 years and under event.

The eight years and under saw the Mini Hornets take first place ahead of The Naughty Ferrets.
