THE future of an initiative that provides a warm space for the community at Newquay’s parish church has been secured.
The Warm Space and Community Space at St Micheal’s Church will remain open for a further 12 months after being awarded Lottery funding.
The facility, which is open between Monday and Friday from 9.30am to 2:30pm, offers a welcoming environment with warmth, refreshments, free WiFi, device charging, friendly conversation, and signposting to local support services.
The new funding ensures the vital service can continue while also supporting additional applications for family-focused events. Plans include monthly Saturday morning drop-in sessions offering activities and games for children aged five to 11, school holiday sessions for families, and expanding access to the space for local schools.
Warm Space co-ordinator Gareth Craze said: "Over the last 15 months, St Michael’s has provided a safe, warm space for people of all ages from the homeless and families to those simply in need of companionship.
“It’s been a place for refreshments, peacefulness, and meaningful connection. Each week, the church supports between 30 to 50 individuals."
Churchwarden Rachel Craze added: "St Michael’s Church is at the centre of Newquay — it is Newquay’s church, for Newquay’s community. We are hoping more locals and visitors will come inside and use our space."
