THE OWNERS of a family-run darts venue in the centre of St Austell have launched a fundraising page in their fight to stay open.
Operating from 2 Vicarage Place for the last nine months, Kernow Darts has become a welcoming community space for families, young people and disability groups across the Duchy.
Built around family and a genuine passion for darts, the shop, which has hosted regular leagues and youth and adult tournaments, is open to people of all ages and abilities.
The shop was founded in memory of family member Alex, a talented darts player who died two weeks before his 16th birthday. Owner Mike Fry and his team, which includes Alex’s two brother, have put their heart and soul into the business, but are finding it increasing hard to keep the business open.
The Kernow Darts team, which is now behind on rent by £1,500, is seeking help to keep the beloved venue running.
Mike, Alex’s father, said: “As a family, we opened a unique venue with four darts lanes, a shop, and hospitality all under one roof in memory of Alex.
“We are really struggling to stay open and provide a place where we can support youth and disability groups to come and enjoy the sport in a safe family environment.
“We are two months behind on rent to stay open and need help for arrears of £1,500. We are doing all we can to survive and local support and the community have helped by coming in and using our venue.
“It’s Alex’s anniversary at the end of this month and so we don't want to let him down by not staying open. We can only survive with your support. Please help keep my son's legacy going.”
