A free programme of summer activities for under-18s in Truro has been announced by Young People Cornwall.

The organisation, which hopes to “give young people a voice, build their confidence, boost their creativity, and open doors to a brighter future” has announced its most recent initiative within the city.

Designed to provide young people with opportunities to engage with their peers and build a sense of community, the summer activities are funded by Safer Streets – a project to boost feelings of safety in Truro by tackling anti-social behaviour and preventing violence against women and girls in and around the city.

With the Safer Streets funding, the team is looking to purchase other equipment with Young People Cornwall including football zorbs, inflatable football goals and targets, dodge balls, nerf battle equipment, a generator and lighting for evening and night-time activities, in the hope that activities will enable young people to meet and make friends while also reducing anti-social behaviour.

Speaking on behalf of Young People Cornwall, Kelly Gleeson said: “Young people are part of the community and it’s our job to work with them to create fun and meaningful activities for them to take part in. They have put forward suggestions for things they’d like to do.

“We’ve previously run sessions focusing on music, boxing, parkour and outdoor activities with BF Adventures which have all been well attended and helped young people feel inspired, motivated and included in their community. We’re excited to bring these summer activities to Truro and look forward to the community seeing young people in a positive light. By fostering a positive and inclusive environment, the provision will provide young people with transferable skills that extend far beyond the activity itself.”
