A HOUSE BUILDER has launched the first ‘net zero ready’ low carbon homes to be built at Nansledan.

Morrish Homes has designed the properties to combine exceptional energy efficiency with natural, sustainable materials.

The two new EPC A-rated homes represent a major step forward in the development’s long-term vision for a greener, more sustainable future.

Each three-bedroom family home has been carefully designed to minimise emissions, improve comfort and significantly reduce energy costs for residents. Powered entirely by electricity, both homes feature air source heat pumps providing heating and hot water, alongside solar PV panels that generate up to 4,500 kilowatt hours of renewable energy each year. Any surplus solar energy produced can be stored in the 11.5kW battery units, enabling homeowners to maximise the use of self-generated power and take advantage of off-peak energy tariffs.

The homes contain a combination of advanced and highly sustainable insulation, airtight construction, and mechanical ventilation heat recovery to maintain comfortable indoor temperatures while improving air quality. These measures ensure the homes’ performance not only exceeds current building regulations, but also surpass the forthcoming ‘Future Homes Standard’. Each property is also fitted with an electric vehicle charging point to support sustainable travel and future-ready living.

The homes have been built using pioneering materials to lower embodied carbon, the emissions generated during construction. Morrish Homes has partnered with Sydenhams Timber Engineering and GRWN Group to introduce an innovative twin timber frame walling system, filled with natural hemp insulation.

Hemp is a fast-growing, renewable crop made in local UK farms that captures carbon from the atmosphere as it grows, meaning the insulation stores carbon rather than emitting it. The sustainable approach continues throughout the homes, which feature British sustainable kitchens made with 70 per cent recycled materials, natural British slate on the roof and solar panels installed by Naked Solar, based locally in Newquay.

Eugene Rapson, joint managing director at Morrish Homes, said: “We’re proud to introduce Nansledan’s first low carbon homes, a landmark step in the development’s sustainable journey and a first for Morrish Homes. These homes prove that comfort, quality and sustainability can go hand in hand, offering homeowners a modern way of living that’s both environmentally responsible and cost-efficient.”
