THE Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed that a blaze that broke out at a former nursing home in Helston last night (Wednesday, April 30), was an arson attack.
Fire crews from Helston and Tovaddon attended the scene at the former Trengrouse Nursing Home on Trengrouse Way shortly before 9pm.
The derelict building has remained empty since it was closed back in 2022.

A Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Fire appliances from Helston and Tolvaddon attended a call to a derelict building with smoke issuing from it.
“On crews arrival they confirmed one room was well alight, an axe was used to gain entry to the room and then two breathing apparatus and one hose reel was used to extinguish the fire.
“A further two breathing apparatus were used to check the fire had not spread to other parts of the building.
“The fire was confirmed as arson.”
