LOWENDER, whose aim is to champion Cornwall’s culture and living traditions, are bringing a Night of Cornish Song to this year’s St Ives September Festival.

The group, who will appear at St Ia Church on Wednesday, September 17, said: “We can’t wait to bring a Cornish language evening to the festival.”

Their performers will be:

  • Hireth, a four-part harmony vocal group singing in the Cornish language Kernewek. Their fresh arrangements consist of striking original works and traditional Cornish songs.
  • Elizabeth Freeborn, a Cornish-born singer-songwriter with a passion for re-enchanting the world through song and the magic of nature, with a particular focus on re-igniting the ancient language of Kernewek.
  • Fest Da Lowr, a fiddle and guitar duo passionate about bringing the old sounds of Cornwall to life through its language and traditional tunes with music that “weaves Kernewek into stories that emerge from and speak of Cornish landscapes and folk traditions, celebrating and exploring the culture that is so meaningful to them.”
