Prime Cattle
A superb entry of 45 Prime Cattle through the ring selling to a slightly eased trade, although the high quality across the board minimising the reduction that would perhaps have been expected.
Joint top honours at 392p/kg for a stunning 741kg Limousin heifer from Mr M A Grigg of Lower Sticker, St Austell at £2,905 and the best handyweight 583kg Limousin heifer from Mr E P Eustice of Fraddam, Hayle at £2,285 as part of his 10 strong consignment.
Mr Eustice back in the ring with the remainder of his first quality cattle, topping the steers at 382p/kg (£2,261) and others at 380p/kg (£2,432), 372p/kg (£2,228), 362p/kg (£2,005), 360p/kg twice and 358p/kg to name but a few.
J B Old Farms of Treyarnon Bay, Padstow well in the mix with their 652kg Limousin steer at 370p/kg (£2,412), a Limousin steer from Mr Grigg at 362p/kg (£2,462) and a 590kg Limousin heifer from Messrs W S Gay & Son of St Allen, Truro at 365p/kg (£2,154).
Four quality cattle tied at 350p/kg; being a 616kg Limousin steer from Messrs W S Gay & Son at £2,156, another Limousin steer from Mr Eustice at £2,002, a heavyweight 756kg Limo steer from Mr W J P Julian of Summercourt, Newquay at £2,646 and a 694kg Limo heifer from Mrs J A Morphew of Penrose, Wadebridge at £2,429.
Cull Cows
A reduced number of cull cows and less quality forward than previous weeks.
Nevertheless a cow-aged Blonde heifer from Messrs P Kingdon & Sons of St Newlyn East, Newquay traded at 288p/kg, followed by a smart Charolais cow from Mr K R Williams of Tehidy, Camborne at 269p/kg and a Limousin cow from Messrs F C & B R Berryman of Zennor, St Ives at 253p/kg.
A Limousin cow from Messrs B K & E L Piper of Sithney, Helston parted away at 243p/kg and a Stabiliser cow from Mr P Green of Stithians, Truro one bid behind at 242p/kg.
Dairy types topped at 218p/kg for a Norwegian Red from Mr P A Henwood of St Issey, Wadebridge and 188p/kg for a Friesian cow from Messrs S M & J Blee of St Martin, Helston.
Store Cattle
A lighter entry to report this week though a firm trade which saw steers top at £2085 for a strong trio of 28-month-old Charolais on behalf of R M Farming Co of Sticker, St Austell who sold similar age Herefords to £1800, whilst Mr S G Collins of St Newlyn East, Newquay sold a quality trio of 21-month-old Charolais to £2000 a piece.
A 1½-year-old Hereford from Mr T G Hawke of Colan, Newquay realised £1760, Messrs P & M R Biddick of St Columb sold a 2-year-old Limo to £1755, whilst a grand bunch of five 2-year-old Angus steers from Mr D M Mark of Tywardreath, St Austell achieved £1720.
Young steers selling to £1705 for a pair of 14-month-old Herefords on behalf of Mr T G Hawke, who sold further young Herefords to £1670 twice and £1500, whilst Mr D P Osborne of Nancledra, Penzance sold a pair of 14-month-old Limos to £1495.
A 10-month-old Simmental from Mr A N Badcock of St Erth, Hayle sold to £1380, which was also achieved by Mr D Pollard of Truro for his 12-month-old Hereford.
Heifers topping at £1835 for a smart pair of 21-month-old Charolais from Mr S G Collins, followed by 20-month-old Blues from Messrs J J & M Bowden & Son of St Columb at £1710, £1700 and £1670.
A 2-year-old Simmental heifer from Messrs R A F, R M & R A Roberts of Gweek, Helston parted away at £1590, followed by a 2-year-old Hereford from Jelbert Brothers of Newbridge, Penzance at £1570.
Young heifers from Mr T G Hawke topped at £1510 for a trio of 13-month-old Herefords, followed by four 15-month-old Limos from Mr D P Osborne at £1345. Shorthorn cows and calves from Fentongollan Farms of Tresillian, Truro sold to £2720, £2620 and £2400.
Rearing Calves
A short but sweet entry of overall high quality through the calf section.
Top of the bulls to £655 for a cracking 5 w.o Simmental from Messrs A D & J A Bray of St Martin, Helston, followed by a shapey young month-old Blue bull from Messrs C J & P H George of Tresillian, Truro at £615.
Messrs Bray back with their 2 m.o Limousin bull at £585, tied with a 2 m.o Blue bull from Messrs M J & R M Tremayne of Constantine, Falmouth at the same money.
Another quality 2 m.o Simmental bull from Messrs Bray sold away at £560 and a month-old Blue bull from Messrs C J & J E Colwell of Creed, Truro at £555.
Best Angus bull of the day to £485 for Mr W R Davey of Probus, Truro and the best Hereford bull at £475 for J C & F C Tripconey Ltd of Mullion, Helston.
Heifers topped at £425, £415 and £405 for a trio of 5 w.o Limousins from Messrs Bray, Messrs George with their 2 m.o Blue at £390 and a pair of Angus heifers tied at £380; one from Messrs Tremayne and the other from Mr Davey.
Finished Hoggets
Some very strong leading prices but prices back on the tail-end and leaner types. Although a record trade for May month averaging £181/head. Topping at £197 for a 63kg Beltex from Miss A H Payne of Cubert.
New Season Lambs
More lambs coming forward each week and some super lambs on offer.
Four pens achieved a joint top price of £199.50; firstly for a quality pen of 47.7kg Charollais crosses from Messrs T B Michell & Partners of Idless, sold to R J Trevarthen Ltd.
This was followed by a 49kg butchers pair at the same money, for Mr J T Rowe of Penponds bought by J V Richards Ltd.
Then at £199.50 were 49kg Charollais lambs from Miss L Monk of Kerley and also at top money were 46.2kg Suffolk Crosses from Messrs W P L Cowling of Newquay, sold to L C Farms of Highampton.
Setting the premium at 473p/kg were a handyweight pair of Mr D J Tremain of St Columb, sold to R J Trevarthen Ltd of Roskrow.
Cull Ewes
Fewer Continentals forward this week and a stand-on trade with exceptional demand prevailing.
Top call of £208 for the best of a run of Beltex ewes from Mrs H S Payne of Cubert, Newquay.
This was followed by a single Texel from Mr J F Rowe of Menabilly, Par at £199 and then another pair from Mr Rowe at the same money.
Charollais x to £190 for Messrs Cregan Gate Partners of Grampound Road, Truro and £188 from Messrs J N & W J Nicholas of Penzance.
Suffolk x Mules to £190 from Mr T Tremain of St Columb; £187 for the best of a grand run from Messrs W P L Cowling & Sons of Newquay; £184.50 again for Mr Rowe; £180.50 for Messrs J A & L S M Tripconey of St Keverne; £179.50 again for Messrs Cowling; £178.50 again for Messrs Tripconey; £175 for Messrs J M & S J Folland of Truro and £175 for Mrs L Ballard of St Issey, Wadebridge.
Poll Dorset to £179 for Mr Lugg of Cury Cross Lanes, Helston. Only 1 ram forward this week for Mr T M Michell of Scorrier, Redruth with a Kerry Hill selling for £152.50.
A good run of sheep (2T) forward as hoggs are cutting teeth in greater numbers. Top price of £183 for a Texel from Messrs J E Nicholls & Partners of Kea, Truro.
Charollais to £180 again for Messrs Tripconey and £179 for Messrs S J Dustow & Son of Ladock, Truro. Further Texel to £177 again for Messrs Cowling; Suffolk x mules to £174 again from Messrs Cowling.
Store Sheep
A light entry this week, with the highlight being a smashing consignment of 16 single couples from Mr T Hall of Bodmin which saw Suffolk x Mule shearlings top at £320 (£160/life) and Texel x Cheviot shearlings sell to £325 (£162.50/life).
Superior quality right the way through for Mr Hall who realised an average of £313 an outfit (£156.50/life).
Store hoggs selling to £134 on behalf of Mr L Retallick of St Wenn, Bodmin.
