A FARM shop that opened at a former Newquay attraction has closed down five months after opening.

Sanders Farm Shop and café, which was located at Dairyland in Tresillian Barton, has vacated the premises due to “unforeseen circumstances”, with the owners now on the lookout for new premises.

Sanders Farm Shop was among the businesses that opened at the site following the closure of Dairyland Farm Park in November 2024 after the business became unviable amid rising operating costs that led to "significant" financial losses every year, despite two record seasons.

A spokesperson for Sanders Farm Shop said: “It’s with a heavy heart that we share some unexpected and very sad news. Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances we have had to vacate. As a result, we are devastated to say that Sanders Farm Shop is now closed.

“We want to take this moment to sincerely thank every single one of you who has supported us over the past five months. Your kindness, custom, and community spirit have meant the world to our small team. “This is not the end, just a pause. We’re already looking for a new premises and we promise to be back as soon as we’ve found the right home for our shop and team. “Until then, thank you again for being part of our journey so far. We’ll see you soon.”

Neighbouring business SwimDog stated on social media: “We were very sorry to hear that Sanders Farm Shop has had to close.

“They’ve been wonderful neighbours and strong supporters of SwimDog since we opened, and we wish them every success as they moo’ve on to pastures new.

“We know some people have seen their announcement and may be concerned about what this means for the rest of the site. To be clear, Sanders’ closure is a matter between them and the landlord, and we don’t want anyone to think this reflects badly on the landlord or the other businesses here.

“We’ve always found the landlord to be supportive and we’re glad to be part of a site with a mix of independent businesses that all contribute to a great visitor experience. SwimDog will continue to be open as normal. Thank you for your continued support for us and for all the other businesses on site.”

A spokesperson for the management at Tresillian Barton said: “Unfortunately starting a new business is a very challenging thing and sometimes it does not always work out. Sanders Farm Shop chose to leave , which is very sad and I wish them all the best for the future.

“The other businesses are operating as usual and we have premises available to rent if anyone is interested.”

Paulo’s Circus is ending its season early at Dairyland Farm Park due to a lack of ticket sales. The final show will be held on Monday, September 1.

A spokesperson stated on social media: “It is with a genuinely heavy heart that I must announce our summer season will be coming to an end five days earlier than originally planned.

“I won’t dress it up, this summer has been quieter than expected. Looking at the bookings for next week’s shows just 201 wonderful people have booked tickets and sadly that simply is not enough to cover the significant costs involved in keeping the show running, it would be too great a gamble for my family to take.

“We are not alone in this, many businesses across Cornwall have shared that trade has been noticeably down this season. With that in mind our final performances will now take place on Monday, September 1 beginning with our special Sen Show, followed by the last evening performance.

“For those of you holding tickets for next week, please don’t worry, our team will be in contact tomorrow from 10am to offer either a transfer to one of this week’s shows or a full refund. There’s no need to email or call unless you haven’t heard from us by 6pm tomorrow evening.

“I’m truly sorry to be delivering this news but with the bank holiday falling as it did and trade being what it has been, it’s simply not a risk we can take. Thank you, as always, for your incredible support. We hope to see as many of you as possible at our final shows.”
