A spokesperson for the dramatic society said: “What really happens when the Iron Lady meets the Diamond Queen?

“For 11 years, two of the most powerful women in the world met once a week for a private audience. No notes were taken, no recordings were made.

“Now, the Newquay Dramatic Society is inviting people to peer through the keyhole of Buckingham Palace with their upcoming production of Handbagged.

“It is a battle of wills and handbags.

“This acclaimed comedy brilliantly imagines the private friction, political posturing, and sheer social awkwardness of the weekly encounters between Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and Queen Elizabeth II.

“It is a wickedly funny play that pits tradition against transformation and duty against conviction.

“From the miners’ strike to the Commonwealth, no topic is off-limits, and the audience find that a well-placed handbag can be just as formidable as a signed decree.

“While the two leading ladies command the stage, the play features a dizzying display of versatility from two phenomenal male cast members who embody dozens of iconic figures from the era.

“Within the blink of an eye, they transform into Ronald Reagan, Arthur Scargill, Rupert Murdoch and even the humble Buckingham Palace footman.

“It is a fast-paced, high-energy performance that keeps the audience laughing while providing a sharp-witted look at British history.

“Whether people remember the eighties vividly or are discovering these icons for the first time, Handbagged offers an insightful and hilarious night out that proves the truth is often funnier than fiction.”
