BBC Radio 1 dance music icon performs to sold-out crowd

BBC Radio 1 dance music icon Pete Tong performed to a sold out crowd in Newquay on Saturday, August 22.

Thousands of dance music fans filled Lusty Glaze Beach with contemporary electronica and classic club sounds providing the soundtrack.

Pete Tong brought his trademark sound for a special celebration of Essential Dance Music and his globally renowned Ibiza Classics performances, which covered three decades of dance music history.

The legendary DJ was placed at the heart of the action on Lusty Glaze's specially created 360° stage, putting the audience around him and creating an entirely different experience.

Lusty Glaze owner Tracey Griffiths said: “Pete Tong is one of those artists whose influence on dance music is almost impossible to overstate.

“He has been part of the soundtrack to generations of people's lives, so to have him standing at the centre of Lusty Glaze, with the crowd surrounding him and the ocean behind him, was a pretty extraordinary sight.

“The 360° concept made this event feel completely different to anything we've done before. There was no separation between the artist and the audience. Pete was right in the middle of everyone and that created an incredible energy across the beach, Pete ‘Loved it’ even commenting ‘what a venue!’

“Then you add the setting, our iconic Lusty sunset, the sand beneath your feet, the cliffs around you it becomes something that simply couldn't be recreated anywhere else.

“We're not trying to be a traditional concert venue. We're creating experiences that are completely connected to the place we're lucky enough to call home.

“You can see Pete in some of the biggest clubs, festivals and venues around the world. But standing on a beach in Cornwall, surrounded by the people who had come to experience that music, with the sun setting over the Atlantic. That's a very Lusty Glaze way of doing things.”
