EMERGENCY services were tasked to investigate reports of a person seen ‘entering the water’ at Crantock Beach on Thursday (April 25)

Newquay Coastguard Search and Rescue Team carried out a search at about 9am but nothing was found.

A Coastguard spokesperson said: “After a comprehensive search the team were stood down with the call deemed a well-intentioned false alarm.

“We would always rather people call us if you see something which concerns them, rather than not call and ultimately someone does not receive the help they need.

“Anyone who sees someone in difficulty along the coast, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.”
